BEAVERTON

The City of Beaverton is on the land of the Atfalati tribe of the Kalapuya people who inhabited the Tualatin Valley before European-American settlers arrived in the mid 1800s. The village the Atfalati tribe lived in was called Chakeipi, which means place of the beaver. The name Tualatin is a mispronounciation of the name Atfalati.
